New 2020 Honda HR-V Review

The subcompact Honda HR-V returns for 2020 with an impressive fuel economy, outstanding cargo storage, and a durable interior. Available in five trims—LX, Sport, EX, EX-L and Touring—the Honda HR-V may be the smallest Honda SUV on the market but it offers plenty of passenger space and a folding back seat to maximize cargo capacity. Let’s take a look.

Delivering up to 28mpg city/34mpg highway*, this subcompact Honda offers 141 horsepower on its 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine. Honda’s Real Time all-wheel drive system is available on all trims and comes standard on the Touring trim. When the system detects wheel slip, it engages a clutch and sends power to the rear wheels, which enhances its stability and traction even in wet driving conditions.

The 2020 Honda HR-V maintains its class-leading cargo space for the new model year with 58.8 cubic feet. Plus, despite its subcompact classification, the HR-V offers ample head and legroom. However, the most thrilling aspect of the HR-V’s cargo space is its second-row Magic Seat. The Magic Seat folds flat and, since the load floor is low to the ground, there is space a’plenty for stacking carry-on suitcases or hauling large items. And, if you want more storage or hauling space, then fold down the passenger-side front seat and you’ll have enough space to accommodate items up to 8 feet long.

From its ergonomically designed cabin to its available heated seats (standard on the EX trim and above), the Honda HR-V provides a comfortable cabin environment for driver and passenger alike.

The HR-V may be little in size but it wins big ratings. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the HR-V its 5-star safety rating and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it one of its Top Safety Pick. Plus, the HR-V offers a variety of safety features via the available suite of Honda Sensing technologies, including:

  • automated emergency braking
  • adaptive cruise control
  • lane-keeping assist
  • collision mitigation braking system
  • road departure mitigation

Additionally, the HR-V offers LED brake lights and daytime running lights.

The 2020 HR-V offers a Display Audio infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Excluding the base LX trim, all 2020 HR-Vs include 7.0 inch touchscreen. Available on other trims but standard on the Touring models is the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. This system provides real-time directions and features voice recognition as well as Honda HD Digital Traffic, which delivers updates as often as every 30 seconds (that’s up to 10 times more often than other analog traffic receivers!).
