6 New Hondas Earn Top Safety Ratings

Are Hondas safe to drive? Um, yes. Hondas are safe to drive. In fact, safety is one of the primary reasons why Tracy Honda customers choose to drive Honda. Hondas are safe, reliable, and great investments. But don’t take it from us, take it from the crash test pros.

These six new 2020 Honda models all received top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). Let’s take a closer look at the IIHS Top Safety Ratings winners and explore what that means.

Winners of the IIHS Top Safety Pick Award

The following five Honda models all earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating when equipped with specific headlights:

Winner of the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

The Honda Insight earned top marks as it took home the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ rating.

What do IIHS Top Safety Pick ratings mean?

All six Hondas each earned the IIHS’ highest possible rating of “Good” in the IIHS’ six crashworthiness tests. Crashworthiness is the ability of a vehicle’s structure to protect occupants during an impact. It is the exact type of test you want your vehicle to earn top marks in. So, yes, way to go Honda.

Why are Hondas so safe?

The superior safety ratings of modern-day Honda models has a lot to do with Honda Sensing®, which is Honda’s advanced suite of driver-assistive technologies that now comes standard or available on all new Honda models. This technology works with the driver to help avoid accidents and mitigate unavoidable collisions.

Thanks to the inclusion of standard Honda Sensing® on the vehicles noted above, all six earned the IIHS’ “Superior” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash prevention.

Honda Sensing® includes such features as:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™ with Pedestrian Detection
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

Plus, all Hondas enjoy a super strong body structure thanks to Honda’s patented Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) body structure, and Honda’s abundant supplemental restraint systems, that includes:

  • pretensioning front seat belts
  • front, side, knee and side-curtain airbags

As the IIHS continues its testing, more 2020 Honda models are expected to earn top safety marks. To stay up-to-date on all things Honda, call or stop by our Tracy Honda dealership.
