2020 Honda Pilot Model Overview: New Features and Specs

A perennial favorite, the 2020 Honda Pilot returns for the new model year largely unchanged and that’s a good thing. Because this three-row SUV remains one of the most well-rounded SUVs in its class, offering drivers a smooth drive, versatility, and comfort. And, most impressively, it does it all at a very affordable price.

Here’s an overview of the 2020 features and specs of the new Honda Pilot.

The 2020 Honda Pilot is available in six trims: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite and the newly upgraded Black Edition which includes dark-finished 20-inch wheels, blacked-out headlight trim, foglights and body elements.

Every 2020 Honda Pilot runs on a naturally aspirated, 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Higher-level models—Touring, Elite and Black Edition—use a sophisticated nine-speed automatic transmission, all others use a six-speed automatic transmission. Front wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available on all trims, yet comes standard on the Elite and Black Edition trims.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy will vary depending upon the powertrain, but the most efficient trim—the front wheel drive Touring—achieves an EPA-estimated 20/27/23 mpg (city/highway/combined). 19/27/22 for 2WD 6AT Trims. 18/26/21 mpg rating for AWD 6AT trims. 19/26/22 mpg rating for AWD 9AT trims. Based on 2020 EPA mileage ratings. Use for comparison purposes only. Your mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle, driving conditions and other factors.

Towing Capacity

Regardless of transmission, a 2020 Honda Pilot with front wheel drive has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, while a 2020 Honda Pilot with all-wheel drive has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

Seating Capacity

The 2020 Honda Pilot can seat up to 8 passengers when outfitted with the three-across bench seats in the second and third row; however, second-row captain’s chairs, which offer more comfort and luxury, reduce the seating capacity to seven. Second-row captain chairs come standard on the Elite and Black Edition trims and are optional on the Touring trim.

Cargo Hold

When it comes to cargo space, the Honda Pilot is one of the most versatile and functional three-row SUVs in its class. The Pilot has 16.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 46.8 cubic feet when the third row is folded down, and offers 83.8 cubic feet when both the second and third rows are folded down.

With the exception of the base Pilot LX, all 2020 Honda Pilot models feature an 8-inch display, standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio and HondaLink vehicle connectivity. The Pilot LX features a 5-inch solo LCD screen and Bluetooth connectivity. Top of the line models have additional connectivity options including Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless phone charger, and embedded navigation.

Every Honda Pilot comes with standard Honda Sensing features, which include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic headlights. Standard on all but the LX model is blind-spot assistance with a cross-traffic monitor.
