2019 Honda Passport Review

Your Passport for adventure, work, and the everyday is here. Slotted between the larger Pilot SUV and the more compact CR-V, the all-new 2019 Honda Passport is a conveniently sized crossover SUV with seating for up to five. Named Car and Driver’s Best Midsize Two-Row SUV1, the Honda Passport has more to offer than most others in its class. Let’s take a look.

Although shorter in length, the Honda Passport is powered by the same engine that serves its bigger sibling the Honda Pilot. Capable of producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, the Passport’s 3.5-liter V6 engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission to offer drivers more power and better towing rates than most competitors. 2WD Passport models tout a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs and AWD models have a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds2. Plus, for added control and driving thrills the Passport offers paddle shifters.

The Passport has a torque vectoring AWD system specifically designed to respond and adapt to the terrain. This system allows for improved traction on wet roads and better handling on dry roads. Every Passport includes Snow Mode, and AWD Passport variants include Mud and Sand as well. Additionally, every Passport comes paired with standard all-season tires. And, the Passport’s fully independent suspension, earns it top marks for maneuverability, which makes for smooth driving even on rocky terrain.

The Passport’s roof rails can be paired with genuine Honda crossbars to support up to 165 pounds of gear. And inside the cabin, the Passport offers over 50 cubic feet of cargo volume and over 100 cubic feet with the second row folded down. Plus, below the rear cargo floor panel, the Passport includes additional storage compartments along with a spare tire.

Opening and closing the Passport’s rear gate is easy with the Passport’s hands-free access power tailgate. To open or close the tailgate all you have to do is swipe your foot beneath the rear bumper sensor. Drivers will be happy to know the Passport also includes a two-position memory feature that will store seat and mirror preferences for up to two drivers.

Loaded with the type of technology that’ll keep you and your passengers entertained, the Honda Passport includes such tech as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a wireless phone charger, mobile hotspot, and Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation. Plus, it’s entirely compatible with the HondaLink app, which allows you to find your car, view fuel levels, and schedule service appointments all from your phone.

Remote engine start comes standard on all Passport trims, so you can warm your Passport up on cold days and cool it down when it’s hot outside. Enjoy even more comfort with heated front and outbound rear seats, and ventilated front seats. The Passport also features a tri-zone automatic climate-control system to create the perfect temperature for all on board.

With a Passport key fob and Walk Away Auto Lock, your Passport will lock automatically once you park, shut the doors, and walk away. The Passport’s multi-angle rearview camera offers three different view angles—normal, top-down and wide—to make it easy to see what’s behind you. Standard LED Daytime Running Lights, low-beam headlights, fog lights, and brake lights allow for excellent visibility all day and all night.

Plus, HondaSensing comes standard on all Passport models. HondaSensing , Honda’s suite of advanced safety technologies, includes: Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Monitor, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Braking System.
